Plies Net Worth

Algernod Lanier Washington, better known by his stage name Plies is an American rapper who has a net worth of $6 million. Plies has released five records in his career and numerous mixtapes, with several songs reaching #1 on the US Rap chart. In 2011, he was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Rap Performance By A Duo Or Group.

Early Life: Plies was born Algernod Lanier Washington on July 1st, 1976, in Fort Myers, Florida. He went to high school at Fort Myers Senior High school, where he played defensive back and receiver on the football team. He was the valedictorian of his graduating class and was named the best-dressed student of his class.

Plies attended Miami University and played wide receiver for their football team between 1995 and 1997 under Nod Washington. He then transferred to the University of Central Florida, although he dropped out before finishing the school year.

In the late ’90s, Plies and his stepbrother, known as Big Gates, established an independent record label, Big Gates Records. The two of them recorded a single together, and after promoting it and traveling to Miami several times, Plies signed to the record label Slip-N-Slide-Records.

Career: In August of 2007, Plies released his debut album “The Real Testament.” The first single from the record, “Shawty,” featured T-Pain and topped the Billboard Hot Rap Tracks chart. The song also peaked at number nine on the Hot 100. The next two singles found similar success, and the album received RIAA gold certification within six months.

His second album, “Definition of Real,” was released in June of 2008, only ten months after his first record. The lead single “Bust It Baby Pt. 2,” which features Ne-Yo, peaked at number two on the Hot Rap Tracks and number seven on the Hot 100. The album reached number two on the Billboard 200 and sold more than 200,000 copies in its first week. The album was eventually certified gold, four months after its release.

In December of 2008, Plies released his third album called “Da REAList.” The album sold more than 110,000 copies in its first week. His singles for the record featured performances by Ashanti and Chris J.  During this time, Plies made guest appearances on Ludacris’ song “Nasty Girl,” as well as the single by DJ Khaled called “Out Here Grindin’.”

Plies released his fourth album, entitled “Goon Affiliated,” on June 8th of 2010. The album’s first two singles both featured guest performances by Bei Maejor. “Goon Affiliated” debuted at number five on the Billboard 200, although it received lukewarm reviews. He continued making guest appearances on other rappers’ songs, including Young Jeezy’s “Lose Your Mind,” which was nominated for Best Rap Performance By A Duo Or Group at the 2011 Grammy Awards.

Plies has continued performing as well as releasing several mixtapes and singles. In 2020, Plies released his fifth record called “The Real Testament 2,” a sequel to his debut record.

Legal Issues: On July 2nd of 2006, police charged Plies with illegal possession of a concealed weapon after a nightclub shooting in Florida. Five people were injured in the shooting, with members of Plies’ entourage receiving charges of attempted murder. The shooting started after Plies’ microphone was cut off because his performance ran over time. According to the promoter, Plies became enraged, shouting, and created a fight, which ended with numerous bullets fired.

In 2017, police arrested Plies in Wesley Chapel, Florida, for driving while intoxicated. Plies refused a roadside breathalyzer test and was then taken into custody.

Personal Life: Plies’ ex-girlfriend, Brandy Lacole Lyons, gave birth to their son in October of 2003.
