Genevieve Nnaji is an iconic Nigerian actress, producer, and movie director and Nollywood’s first billionaire with an estimated net worth of $10.5 million, according to Networthium. Netflix bought the global license for her movie “Lion Heart” for $3.8 million and the actress is reported to have luxury properties in Ghana and Nigeria.
Genevieve Nnaji is a Nigerian actress, director, and producer born on the 3rd of May 1979. She started acting in 1971, at the age and her then role as a child actor was in the then-popular soap “Ripples”. It wasn’t until Genevieve was 19, in 1998, that she was introduced to the then-budding Nigerian movie industry, with “Most Wanted” as her first movie role.
Although Genevieve was born in Mbaise, in Imo State, where she’s from, she spent her formative years in Lagos. From a family of 10 and the fourth of eight children, Genevieve attended Methodist Girls College before securing admission into the University of Lagos (UNILAG) where she bagged a bachelor’s degree in creative arts.
She was one of the best-paid and highest-earning Nigerian actors as of 2009. She is fondly referred to as being in the same class of acting with actors such as Omotola Jalade-Ekehinde, Rita Dominic, Ramsey Nouah, Desmond Elliot, etc.
Genevieve produced her first move, The Road to Yesterday in 2015. The movie would go on to win the best movie overall West Africa at the 2016 AMVCA awards. Genevieve has featured in nearly 200 movies from 1998 to date and has won over 15 awards in several movie categories as well over 30 nominations. Her debut directorial movie, “Lion Heart” was the first Nigerian submission of the Oscars. Unfortunately, Lion Heart was disqualified because most of its dialogue was in English as against the rule of qualification.
Genevieve Nnaji was honoured with the Member of the Order of the Federal Republic (MFR) for her contributions towards the Nigerian movie industry.
