Olufunke Ayotunde Akindele-Bello (also known as Jenifa) is a Nigerian actress, philanthropist, and movie producer famously known for her popular TV series Jenifa’s Diary. She won the AMVCA Best Actress in a Leading Role in 2019 for the movie Jenifa.

Funke Akindele-Bello was born in Ikorodu, on August 24, 1977. Her father was a retired school principal and her mother a medical doctor. The second of three children obtained her Ordinary National Diploma in Mass Communication at the Moshood Abiola Polytechnic.

Funke Akindele-Bello started her acting career in 1998 with the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) sponsored sitcom, I Need to Know which grounded to a halt in 2002. Funke Akindele played the role of an inquisitive but intelligent young school girl. Despite her immense talent, Funke Akindele’s big break did not come until 2008 when she appeared in the movie Jenifa. Jenifa, a comedy-drama which got four nominations at the AMVCA the same year and earned Funke Akindele the big win for the Best Actress in a Leading Role.

Riding on the fame of the character in the movie, Jenifa, Funke decided to make the movie into a franchise, thus making Jenifa’s Diary a series, depicting Jenifa as the funny and naive character, just as in the movie.

Since her emergence, Funke Akindele-Bello has acted in over 60 movies to date and has won over 18 awards, including the AMVCA Best Lead Actress (2017) and the most recent Best Supporting Actor in a Movie or TV Series (2020).

Funke Akindele-Bello is married to Nigerian rapper, Abdulrashaad Bello, popularly known as Skillz of JJC Skillz. Together, they have twin boys while Funke Akindele has stepchildren, all from JJC’s previous marriage(s)

Funke Akindele has several endorsement deals including but not limited to a brand to Dettol, Iroko TV, KeyStone Bank, Waw Nigeria, and Amen Estate, among many others. Funke Akindele was a brand ambassador for the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) and helped in creating awareness against the novel coronavirus. The deal was later canceled after she was caught violating lockdown orders. Funke and her husband were tried and 14-day community service after a video of a house party in the couple’s home surfaced online.
